The next space that I wanted to show you in the #projeckking full home transformation is the little patio that Kristina has. I’ll admit, when I first saw it, I was pretty confused as to what I was going to do with it. It’s small and a little awkward…
We had about 180 sq. ft. to work with, which is perfectly fine, except that it was in an odd L-shape. It wasn’t really conducive to anything especially if you wanted to entertain. There were lots of random pipes around the space as well as a utility room off to the side with an annoying door that has to open up into the patio.
Kristina was looking for a different feel from her living room (the one I posted a few months ago). Something modern, something cozy, and something blue. Her living room color scheme was mostly grays, whites with pops of pink – more of a feminine look. This time she wanted blue outside. Totally up my alley! So we added a hint of blue in the accessories, but kept it pretty neutral so that she could change the color scheme whenever she wanted to.
She also wanted to be able to entertain people, so a dining and living area were the perfect solution to her needs. It also helped divide this awkward space and give each part purpose!
The other thing that we really had to think about was the budget for a space like this. Most outdoor furniture gets ruined over time by the extreme weather in this region, and it really hurts to have spent a lot of money on something just to see it get annihilated by the sun or sandstorms. So we needed outdoor furniture to fit a small space, at a reasonable price point, and something you could replace easily… IKEA to the rescue!
The table that was already out there wasn’t meant for the outdoors, and it was a little too big for the space. So we pretty much got rid of everything and brought in new pieces… Check. It. Out.

We actually didn’t use the IKEA seat and back cushions on these chairs. We ordered outdoor fabric in a neutral color from www.fabric.com, had it shipped here, and then had them made to the same size as the IKEA cushions.
Kristina loves to cook so this plant ladder is the perfect place to grow fresh herbs! It also helps cover that beautiful pipe behind it…
The pergola is probably one of my favorite things about this patio. It covers the entire space, but it wasn’t actually meant to provide shade as it would block Kristina’s window, the only source of light in her living room. It was made to create a different kind of feel – modern, interesting, but cozy. It was also a great way to hang up lights without having to put up random poles around a small patio! I also love the black color as it is gives you the perfect contrast to the white below.
FYI – for shade in the warmer months, you can add some fabric and weave it through the pergola or add an umbrella to the dining table – it has that option!
Isn’t it so dreamy at night? I love this patio soooo much and I hope you did too!
