I’ve always known that Portugal was famous for its ceramics, but you don’t really realize how much its used in local architecture until you get there. Almost all of the buildings are covered in beautiful Azulejos (Portuguese tiles) – the churches, stores, train stations, museums, and any other building that needs a little oomph!
Luckily, the gift shops in most of the cities sell tiles, bowls, ceramic figurines as well as other interesting little items to take back with you at great prices, but there were two stores in particular that I absolutely adored. I could have packed an entire suitcase full of their items, but I’ll show you what I picked up for myself.
A Vida Portuguesa
A Vida Portuguesa is the cutest little set up. It has the whole vintage farmhouse style down to an art and they use such a refreshing color palette on their home goods. They have quite a few locations around the city as well as a warehouse that is pretty close to the city center. There’s even a small location set up in Time Out Market, one of my favorite places that you can read all about in my Guide to Lisbon post.
Each store has different collections, including small gifts, spices, soaps, decorative tiles, blankets, and various types of homeware. Actually, one thing that I was surprised by was the price of the ceramics in Portugal. It was incredibly reasonable and felt like every item I picked up was worth taking back.
FYI aka Dangerous Information – They deliver worldwide…
So the cabbage pottery was something that I wasn’t interested in picking up for myself, but seemed pretty popular as many of the ceramic stores were carrying them. I do, however, regret not buying some of the blankets and the colored glassware that I saw.
Ceramicas na Linha
I actually bought all of my stuff from Ceramicas na Linha as I thought the prices were a little bit better than A Vida Portuguesa. I’ll admit that the collection was not as pretty, but they had a much larger selection and some really beautiful pieces. The other thing about Ceramicas na Linha is that some of their pieces were priced based on the weight of the ceramics, which still worked out to be very well priced.
What I Picked Up For My Home
I was in need of some cute every day bowls and dessert bowls for my house, so I picked up about 12 for €5 a pop. No joke. And since I don’t really like matchy matchy stuff, I made sure to buy a few different designs that were somewhat similar (in color or in bowl shape) so that it felt cohesive when they were all used together. This is actually a great way of picking up multiple pieces that you like without having to stick to one design!
These bowls were probably one of my favorite purchases ever from a vacation because I loved them so much, they are so functional and practical for me, and the price was just amazing.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the lovely ceramics from Portugal and make sure you show me what you pick up when you go visit!
