So I’ll be honest… I totally went to Dubai for a JLo concert and then later realized that it was Dubai Design Week. I know. Worst interiors blogger ever. But seriously? What an awesome coincidence!
While I wasn’t really in town for any of the workshops or presentations, I was able to go and check out Dubai Design District, also known as d3, to see what the UAE’s incredibly creative design community had to offer. d3 was full of stalls with food, décor, art as well as multiple installations highlighting product design and cultural and architectural concepts.
In general, what I love about this area is that it’s not only close to the downtown core, but seems to be a thriving community focused on nurturing the artists and creative thinkers in the city. They take so much pride and interest in trying to teach their residents and visitors about Dubai’s artistic vision. Even while I was driving around the city this time, it was quite evident that some of the new developments (restaurants and stores) wanted aesthetics and design to be an important part of why you would want to come there. I was actually so inspired by their desire to provide a platform for creative minds and to support innovative design concepts.
As I walked around d3, I took a few pictures of various installations so that I could show you how amazing the whole set up was!! I really really hope to make it out for the entire 5 days next time!
This display by IKEA and Hay was in the middle of a gorgeous building, and included an area with incredible round structures made out of plywood and plants! It even had a little seating area inside the structure so that you could really feel like you were surrounded by greenery. I seriously love IKEA…
