Some of you got a chance to see my planter project this weekend on my IG stories, but for those of you who missed it, I thought I’d show you what I did to a really large planter that I bought from our local classifieds for SR 100!
This can be a super quick project, requires very few materials (you probably have some of these things at home), and with the right color choice, can make a huge impact…
So as you can see, the white planter looked like it needed a fresh coat of anything… Also, I realized that the white color wasn’t really working for my yard. You can’t tell in the pictures, but this planter is huge, and the white was making it stand out like a sore thumb.
I had a can of Charcoal spray paint that I picked up from Manazel in Bahrain the last time I was there, and knew that this color would work really well. How did I know that? Well, I already have a lot of dark colored planters in my yard, so the charcoal wouldn’t create a huge contrast with what was already in there. I also wanted to tone down the size of the planter, so the dark matte chalky finish would help the piece blend in!
After multiple coats, and finishing the whole can of spray paint, I got this beauty. Doesn’t it look so sexy?!
I then coated it with a clear outdoor (non-glossy) spray to protect the color from any water. It was a random can I had in my closet, and I have no idea if it’ll work, but I definitely think it’s worth finding any kind of clear waterproof spray for a project like this especially if it’s going outside!
My next stop was Sultan Gardens for an equally sexy and cool plant. I thought about doing something tropical, but after seeing all of the community gardens at the Dhahran Nursery this weekend, I was inspired to plant something more functional. I found a cute little lemon tree at Sultan Gardens and am praying it will survive our horrific summer. If it doesn’t, it’s getting replaced with a plant that is super low maintenance!
Anyways, for now, here is my “new” planter and my little lemon tree…
See how well this new color works with what I already have? White was way too bright. And I love how it makes the pink curtains on my pergola look super hip!

Hope you enjoyed the quick transformation and I hope it inspires you to try it out on something you have at home!
Oh, and please pray that my little lemon tree survives…

Sorry for the not so high quality pics – they’re mostly from my phone and don’t show up as well on the blog!
