This home office is a super duper multi-functional space. Not only does it serve as an office, it needs to accommodate for PS5 sessions, for when their dog needs a moment, for storage, as well as for when the kids need to just bounce around and hang out with dad while he works.
In addition to functionality, the room also has to work with the rest of the house. So my main focus was – how can I make this space feel unique and yet a part of the larger whole? In this particular room, I took shades of the same colors, some of the same textures and finishes from their living and dining room, and added them to the home office.
This space really needed a bit of a layout change to help make it feel more open. While the wall-mounted pieces were critical for storage, they were making the room feel very heavy on one side especially because there was nothing with height on the other. The desk placement also made the room feel smaller by cutting it in half. To fix this, the furniture was evenly distributed around the room and pushed up against the wall so that nothing looked and felt “heavy.”
We kept a few of the major pieces such as the sofa (one of my favorite sofas from West Elm), the armchair, the ottomans and the rug. For functional purposes, we selected furniture with storage, swapped out the heavy window treatments and painted the walls a warm paint color (Sherwin Williams Anew Gray). Now, not only is the room functional but also looks super cozy!
